Thread lifts are a non-surgical procedure designed to lift and tighten the skin, while also kick-starting the body’s natural collagen production. After local anaesthetic is applied topically, threads are inserted with a fine needle into the subcutaneous layer of the skin, and lifted for instant results. Over time, threads will gradually stimulate production and tissue regeneration for longer term results.
Depending on your goals and how many areas need to be treated, you may need more than one thread.
What are the benefits of a thread lift?
Thread lifts are ultra-fine, dissolvable poly-L-lactic surgical threads designed to dissolve into the skin; no chemicals, no surgery, just simple fibres that lift the skin. Threads lift the face to the contours of your face and restore shape and definition without the need for more invasive procedures such as surgery.
Patients can see tightened skin, lifted jowls and neck, reduced marionette lines and folds, and even tightening around the eyes for a younger-looking appearance. The collagen benefits mean that results will continue to improve over time.
How long does a thread lift last?
Thread lift results can be seen in around 3 months and they are normally fully dissolved by 12 months. As the threads are designed to collagen production in areas, you may see a continued improvement and longer lasting, natural results.

My experience was great. Doctor Noreen Hashmi is fantastic. Very professional and attentive to all requests. She really loves her job and she does it perfectly. I’m very happy with the tear trough the Botox and the lips. Everything is very natural and she really understands the person she is treating.

The risks can include infection, thread migration, thread breakage, visible or palpable threads, asymmetry, skin dimpling, nerve damage, and allergic reactions. Choosing an experienced and qualified aesthetic doctor can help minimise these risks.
Thread lifts aren’t suitable for everyone, as it depends on your skin, facial anatomy, age and other factors including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who suffer from anti-coagulation or auto-immune conditions. During your consultation your doctor will evaluate your medical history, skin condition, and treatment goals to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.
Thread lifts can be used to lift the jowls and redefine the jaw line. You can see immediate results when the neck or jowl tissue is repositioned, which improves over time with stimulated collagen production.
Your sk:n doctor will conduct a post-treatment review to ensure you are happy with the results, ensure you’re following your aftercare advice, and answer any further questions you may have.
How long the results from a thread lift last can vary depending on the type of threads used, the patient’s skin condition, and how well they look after their skin following the procedure and lifestyle factors such as smoking. To prolong the results of a thread lift, it’s essential to follow a good skincare routine, protect the skin from sun damage, avoid smoking, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
It’s important to note that thread lifts do not stop the natural ageing process, and the skin will continue to age over time, although additional collagen stimulation will help to maintain some of the lifting and effects.
In general, the effects of a thread lift can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. Some may choose to supplement their procedure with additional cosmetic procedures such as dermal filler or skin tightening to enhance the results.
Following your procedure, your doctor will give you aftercare instructions to ensure your skin is well looked after, making sure you minimise the risk of side effects and get the very best results. Your recommendations may include avoiding intensive exercise, extreme heat and sun exposure, or taking certain medications, good skincare, and attending any follow-up appointments.
Afterwards, patients may experience some pain or aching, swelling and bruising, skin tightness – common side effects with any treatment. You’ll be made aware of all common and rare side effects, and what to do should you experience any.
The level of discomfort experienced during a thread lift procedure can vary from person to person.
While the thread lift itself is generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience mild discomfort or sensations such as pulling, tugging, aching or a slight stinging feeling as the threads are inserted and adjusted beneath the skin. We will offer a anaesthetic to minimise pain or discomfort during the procedure.
After the procedure, it’s normal to experience soreness, swelling, bruising, or discomfort, which are typically mild and will subside within a few days to a week. Any pain or discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers or ice if needed – your doctor will give you appropriate advice during your consultation and before the procedure.
